Poeta y embajador de Turquía en Madrid (en 1929), escribió el siguiente poema que narra una noche española en la que se siente ebrio de alegría y amor.El tema central de esta poesía, que a la vez representa un ambiente exótico, es el baile de una española de una belleza flagrante. El poeta que se siente embriagado en una noche andaluza llena de alegría y diversión, al son de castañuelas, demostrando todo su talento y arte, se dirige a la hermosa española de esta forma:

BAILE EN ANDALUCIA.

Castañuela, mantilla y rosa. El baile veloz llena el jardín…
En esta noche de jarana, Andalucía se ve tres veces carmesí…
Cientos de bocas recitan la canción mágica del amor.
La alegría española esta noche, está en las castañuelas.
Como el revuelo de un abanico son sus vueltas súbitas,
Con súbitos gestos se abren y se cierran las faldas.
Ya no veo los demás colores, sólo el carmesí,
La mantilla esta noche ondea a España entera en sí.
Con un encanto travieso, cae su pelo hacia su frente;
La mas bonita rosa de Granada en su pecho rebelde.
Se para y luego continúa como si caminara,
Vuelve la cara y mira como si apuntara y matara.
Labios ardientes, negros ojos y de rosa su tez!
Luzbel me susurra: ¡Anda bésala mil veces!
¡Olé a la rosa que enamora! ¡Ole al mantilla que deslumbra!
¡Olé de todo corazón a la castañuela que al espíritu alumbra!”

Zil, şal ve gül. Bu bahçede raksın bütün hızı…
Şevk akşamında Endülüs üç def’a kırmızı…
Aşkın sihirli şarkısı yüzlerce dildedir.
İspanya neş’esiyle bu akşam bu zildedir.
Yelpaze gibi çevrilir birden dönüşleri;
İşveyle devriliş, saçılış, örtünüşleri.
Her rengi istemez gözümüz şimdi aldadır;
İspanya dalga dalga bu akşam bu şaldadır.
Alnında halka halkadır âşufte kâkülü;

El escritor turco Orhan Pamuk logra el Premio Nobel de Literatura .

La Academia Sueca destacó el compromiso de Pamuk con la libertad de expresión y la verdad histórica.
Un autor que sin renunciar a la cultura ancestral del pueblo turco tiene a la vez el compromiso social basado en el respeto a la diferencia, comprometido con los derechos humanos y amante del progreso.

En la búsqueda del alma melancólica de la ciudad en que nació (Estambul) el escritor ha encontrado “nuevas imágenes para expresar las controversias y confluencias de culturas diferentes”.

Su opinión sobre la sociedad turca, la sintetiza así :"no es el dilema entre laicismo e islamismo lo que hoy divide a los turcos, nuestra principal fractura interior es la muy injusta distribución de la riqueza. Consiguiendo un nivel de vida digno y un Estado democrático y respetable, los musulmanes turcos serán europeos entusiastas y gente feliz y pacífica como los católicos españoles o los protestantes holandeses”.

Nuestro autor estuvo acusado de haber atentado contra la identidad de su pais por afirmar que en Turquía, habían muerto asesinados en la primera guerra mundial, un millón de armenios, como consecuencia de los enfrentamientos habidos, y treinta mil kurdos en las últimas décadas del pasado siglo . “En tiempos en que las cosas son escurridizas la libertad de expresión se convierte en algo muy importante: la necesitamos para entendernos a nosotros mismos”.

Su obra no es política, pero ha sido capaz de escribir una novela como "Nieve" para la que estuvo dispuesto a examinar los rincones oscuros de la historia reciente de su país.

Parmuk, que es partidario de la modernización de Turquía y de su futura entrada en la Unión Europea, dio un ejemplo de honestidad intelectual al contar una historia que, según reconoció, casi alarmó por su crudeza a algunos de sus amigos europeos. Les dio una imagen de Turquía que les atemorizaba.

Salman Rushdie, que tuvo la solidaridad de Pamuk, cuando condenó la fatwa contra él, ha escrito: "Una Europa carente de principios, que le da la espalda a sus grandes artistas y a los luchadores por la libertad, continuará defraudando a sus ciudadanos. Por tanto no sólo Oriente, también Occidente está siendo puesto a prueba,en ambas orillas del Bósforo, el caso Pamuk es muy importante”.

Turkey´s Little Known Facts

Istanbul is the only city in the world located on two continents, Europe and Asia. In its thousands of years of history, it has been the capital of three great empires - Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman.

The oldest known human settlement in the world is located in Catalhöyük, Turkey, dating back to 6500 B.C. The earliest landscape painting in history was found on the wall of a Catalhöyük house, illustrating the volcanic eruption of nearby Hasandag.

Two of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World stood in Turkey - the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus and the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus in Bodrum.

The Turks introduced coffee to Europe.

The first coins ever minted were done so at Sardis, the capital of the ancient kingdom of Lycia, at the end of the seventh century B.C.

The word "turquoise" comes from "Turk" meaning Turkish, and was derived from the beautiful colour of the Mediterranean Sea on the southern Turkish coast.

The Turks first gave the Dutch their famous tulips that started the craze for the flower in England and the Netherlands. Bulbs brought to Vienna from Istanbul in the 1500s were so intensely popular that by 1634 in Holland it was called "tulipmania". People invested money in tulips as they do in stocks today. This period of elegance and amusement in 17th century Turkey is referred to as "The Tulip Age."

The most valuable silk carpet in the world is in the Mevlana Museum in Konya, Turkey. Marco Polo's journeys in the thirteenth centuries took him here, and he remarked that the "best and handsomest of rugs" were to be found in Turkey.

Many important events surrounding the birth of Christianity occurred in Turkey. St John, St Paul and St Peter all lived and prayed in southern Anatolia. Tradition has it that St John bought Virgin Mary to Ephesus after the Crucifixion, where she spent her last days in a small stone house (Meryemana Evi) on what is now Bülbüldağı (Mount Koressos). It remains a popular pilgrimage site for Christians to this day.

Anatolia is the birthplace of many historic figures and legends such as the poet Homer, King Midas, Herodotus (the father of history) and St Paul the Apostle.

The first man ever to fly was Turkish. Using two wings, Hezarfen Ahmet Celebi flew from the Galata Tower over the Bosphorus to land in Usküdar in the 17th century.

Saludos a todos y bienvenidos a nuestra nueva bitácora.
Espero que mucha gente participe en esta idea tan grata y acertada. Espero también que aqui confluyan varias lenguas y que no sólo el inglés sea la lengua base, sobre todo porque eso frenaría las ganas y el ánimo de aquellos que no se sienten con el suficiente nivel como para escribir algún comentario en dicha lengua. Por eso voy a aprovechar y voy a saludar a nuestros colegas italianos con un italiano "pobre" pero válido pa ir tirando:
Ciao Italia!! Ciao Albizatte! Come vai? La Jarcia vi saluta e vi manda un baccio!

Y cómo no, saludo igualmente a nuestros colegas canarios: !Saludos Gran Canaria! !Un abrazo muy fuerte para la gente del Franchy Roca!

Finalmente mi saludo es para Turquía y como mi inglés deja mucho que desear, sólo puedo decir: Hi Nese! Hi Ankara! You are very nice!
